What does the activity include? During this half day introduction to falconry you will experience the thrill of handling these magnificent birds of prey. After arrival and registration you will move out to the countryside to fly the hawks in their natural environment, returning to the centre at about 4.30pm where the falconers will answer any questions you may have about the birds and the ancient sport of falconry.
Where does the experience take place? Kent, Devon & Nottinghamshire.
What should I wear? As this activity will be mostly outdoors, we suggest you wear comfortable outdoor clothing suitable for the weather conditions and a pair of strong walking boots or wellingtons if possible.
How long should I allow for this experience? You should allow approximately 4 hours for this experience.
When does the activity take place? The activity takes place all year round but spring and autumn are ideal seasons for falconry as the temperatures are perfect for the birds in these months.
Are there any restrictions? Minimum age for Falconry course is 14 years. 16 years at Nottingham. No dogs are allowed at the centre.
What about the weather? If the weather is cause for cancellation then an alternative date will be offered to you.
Can I bring spectators? Spectators are welcome but there may be a charge depending on location. Kent - 1 spectator per voucher holder is permitted at a cost of £30 Nottingham - A maximum of 1spectators is welcome at a charge of £30 (spectators under 10 years old go free) Devon - Spectators are welcome at a charge of £20 per person.
Spectators must be booked in advance but the fee is payable on the day. Spectators under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult for insurance reasons.
What else do I need to know? Centre is open every day from March to November from 10.30am to 5pm and from December to February on weekends only from 11am to 4pm. The activity takes place all year round but spring, autumn & winter are ideal seasons for falconry as the temperatures are perfect for the birds in these months. Wheelchair access and facilities for the disabled are available at Kent.
