The Great Central Railway Experience - £329 This is your chance to drive and fire an original steam locomotive on a 16 mile main-line journey!
What does the activity include? A warm reception and a hot drink await you in the Loughborough Central refreshment room when you meet your friendly host for the day. After donning company overalls you'll be shown a brief training film and during the day, enjoy a tour of the locomotive works and signal box.
The highlight of your day comes when you mount the footplate of your locomotive for your historic journey on Britain's only main line steam railway, ably instructed and assisted by an experienced crew.

What should I wear? Please wear casual clothing and dress appropriately for the weather conditions. Please wear stout shoes, definitely not trainers.
How long should I allow for this experience? Allow 6 to 7 hours for this experience.
When does the activity take place? These courses run most weekends throughout the year and selected weekdays during the summer.
Are there any restrictions? Participants must be 18 or over and be physically and mentally fit with good hearing and vision. No maximum age but must be fit enough to climb up to the footplate. You must not suffer from any driving prohibiting condition.
What about the weather? If the activity is cancelled due to weather conditions an alternative date will be offered to you.
Can I bring spectators? One complimentary ticket for a guest's train travel is included.
What else do I need to know? Lunch is included. Each participant will receive a Driving Certificate in a presentation folder.
